Dear Diary,
after a total of 3 years of work, the time had finally come and I could hold the photo book of my dreams in my hands and show it to other people!
Of course, I wanted to celebrate it properly.
Here you can see some exclusive insights from the launch event of my photo book publication 'OPAQUE', which took place on 09 July 2022 in Berlin at the Lobe Block.
Besides a great DJ duo (Tydings McClary and Zita), there was an artist talk at the beginning of the evening where I guided my guests through the content of the book. My conversation partner was graphic designer Laura Markert (büro bungalow), who talked about the graphic design process and the question of why people even design books these days (Laura gave a full interview about her thoughts on that topic on BEIGE.DE *click*)
The talk was moderated by my good friend Maja Klimt (image and art historian, lives in London), who shed light on the central themes of the book. We talked about topics like the female gaze in the image, digital identity in social media and the influence on young people and questioned the identity of photography in the 21st century in general. We had a look at some single images that can be found in the book and I shared some background stories about my photographic technique. In the meantime, my talented friend Zeynep Bozbay (actress) kept reading from the photo book in parts. Because for the first time, I am not only sharing photographs with the world, but also texts written by myself in the form of a short story. At the end there were flowers and a little speech from my father, which I was very happy about.
Afterwards we took lots of photos, all of which my dear friend Finn took in analogue. Also some Polaroids, as my team and I managed to get the Polaroid brand as an official partner for the launch event! How great is that? Paul, another close friend, captured the atmosphere of the evening very authentically on video. In the video you can see that I was wearing a brown suit from Daily Paper, which I have the PR agency Haebmau Atelier to thank for. I really felt very comfortable in it.
I am grateful that both my family and long-time friends as well as my closest business partners were all gathered in one place that evening to spend an unforgettable evening with me. I will not forget that in a hurry. Nevertheless, I am already looking forward to the next book.
Sending you love and take care,
Stephie xx
